my narcissistic infodump

April 24th, 2006 · 9 Comments

Honestly, there are days I feel like the last unmarried and unattached 30-something woman in the world.

I’m having a hard time expressing the other thing on my mind, so I’ll just infodump it. I’ve been a part of a lot of social groups in my life, and I move in and out of them as my level of interest waxes and wanes.

Inevitably, after I’ve moved on I get a message at some point from someone in the group that things “haven’t been the same” since I left and that I brightened things up and blah blah blah. And I could ignore it, but it seems to happen every time.

It’s not like I intentionally set out to be The Perky and Upbeat One. I just refuse to be miserable. It’s not that I don’t whinge and rant, but I’m optimistic about my complaining. Or I try to be.

Okay, that went nowhere. And it sounds narcissistic to boot. So to sum up: I’m apparently a wonderful person, and I’m single. Wha’?

Here’s a thought to brighten your day, just a little ray of sunshine from me to you:

Maybe you’re a wonderful person BECAUSE you’re single? Huh? Ever thought about that? Maybe if you had someone you’d turn into one of those wide-eyed drooling vegetative couple-monsters that plague reality with their hand-holding, pet names, and excessive PDA’s. Then you’d get e-mails from people saying thank god you left because you were pissing them off.

    Or, maybe not. ;)

AHHHHHHHHHHH someone who is like me. Quit it. I too have had that wierd call back from people at old work or what not who are like, hey you really brought a smile to the place.

In fact a new co worker ( contract Business Analyst ) stated that he thought it rare to see someone so cheerful given the lead developer position. My reply after a thanks was,”um better happy than sad.”

I think it’s cause we put on a happy front for the world knowing that society is just trying to bring us down with its “couples” this and “Spouses” that. The happiness is just sticking it to the man while we look for our perfect someone to be overly happy with. Course then I guess that person will wonder why we are always happy. hmmmm. This might require more thought.

P.S. Just finished Gunslinger Girl. Kinda depressing. Gonna tackle Inuyasha next. In case you couldn’t tell from my myspace page, I love the Full Metal Alchemist series!

Ah, but Jennifer — everyone is unique, in their own way.

Audrey — Funny, I was just glancing through my copy of NAUSICAA….

You’re aware I’m collaborating with an artist to do an Original English Language comic in the style of Japanese manga? Probably not, since I haven’t mentioned it here. There isn’t much up yet (we’re both busy with personal deadlines), but the website will be here when it’s ready:
