Wintertime tomatoes would not keep my grandfather from making salsa; he just used canned instead.
I admit that typing this is a touch difficult; there are quite a few things I would change about this recipe (lime juice for lemon, omit the basil, minced red onion instead of powder), but I’m being faithful.
- 2 14 oz cans diced tomatoes
- 4-5 green onions, whites and greens chopped
- 1/2 green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 small can chopped green chilies
- basil
- oregano
- salt
- garlic powder
- onion salt
- lemon juice
- cilantro, chopped
- Combine in a bowl.
- If this isn’t thin enough, add some tomato juice. If you want it hotter, add chopped jalapeno pepper.
